wip: yer

I am very excited about this first work in progress post, because I am very excited about this assignment.

I've been lucky enough to be tasked with organizing, designing and laying out my office's year end report. There are a ton of reasons why this has probably been my favorite study abroad project to date. A few of those reasons:

1. The Opportunity

I feel incredibly lucky that at my first job out of school I had the chance to do an annual report. It's not something a lot of designers get to do in their careers, let alone right away. It's quite a big project, and it is an important one to our office. One of our director's goals is to continue growing and being viewed as a top study abroad office in the country. Having a professional, well organized annual report is hugely important to the image of our office as a leader in the field.

2. The Challenge

With the great opportunity comes the great responsibility, and I'm loving it. While I have increasingly been given more important tasks, this is the biggest one yet. It's also literally the biggest project, as a 40+ page book is a bit more substantial than an 11x17 poster.

3. The Design

The report also continues to challenge me in the same way that this job has since I started as an intern in January. As an office of the University of South Carolina, it is important that my designs cooperate with USC's design guidelines. While this was restricting at first, it really has helped me develop a new side of my creativity and has made me much more comfortable working within relatively strict parameters. I've been learning to walk the line between fitting USC's brand and standing out against the other offices and publications - developing a brand within a brand. I think this project is the most unique I've made so far in this position, but it still fits in well with USC's brand identity.

4. The Work

A huge part of why I'm so excited about this project is because I like what I've produced. While there are still a few tweaks here and there, I'm proud of what I've created so far, and I'm excited to share and stand behind it.
